A sad announcement
OaklandNews editor extraordinaire Jeannette Sherwin has passed away. More information will be posted here at the OaklandNews web site soon. In the meantime, a little prayer, a moment of silence or a toast in her name seems appropriate.
I knew Jeannette was ill; cardiomyopathy is a very serious condition, but she seemed to be getting stronger after her gastric surgery. Her last email to me was full of hope for the future.
Is there any word on services or remembrances?
Posted by: Ed Rovera on January 20, 2004 11:25 AMJeannette was a force of nature! I will think of her churning down the Colorado river at full speed on a raft, with close friends. the plan she was dreaming of for her future during the last weeks of her life. Outdoors, in wind and water her spirit will be at home.

Give 'em hell in heaven, kiddo. Say hello to our Clarkie brethren.
You will be missed...

Jeannette was a good friend and one of my most ardent suporters. We had many laughs together. Jeannette was the center of a great web which reached out and connected many of us who love Oakland so much. Her love of the english language, her lust to know and be a catalist for change. Her dinners were a fun, with a good mix of ideas and individuals, as well as informative get togethers. I will miss her.
