OPD personnel should advise citizens to use special caution when answering their doors. Remind them to refuse entry to anyone they do not know and to keep doors and windows locked whenever possible.

Additionally, advise citizens to be wary of anyone claiming to be from an organization such as City of Oakland, PG&E, a telephone or cable company, etc, especially if such visitors are not expected. Citizens should always ask to see a repair worker‚s ID before letting them enter. Remind citizens that if a repair worker does not have a prearranged appointment, they should call the company to ask if they sent a worker out and for the name and description of the worker they sent.
