I am writing to inform you that Mayor Brown and I are making staffing
changes that will take effect on August 1, 2003. Claudia Cappio will
assume the duties of City of Oakland Development Director, Dan
Vanderpriem will serve as Redevelopment Director and Joyce Hicks will
take on additional duties as Advisor to the Mayor.
Claudia Cappio served as the Manager of Major Development Projects
for the City of Oakland, working on Mayor Brown‚s 10K Downtown
Development Initiative for the past three years. Before coming to
Oakland, she worked as the Planning and Building Director for the City
of Emeryville. She has a degree in Urban Studies from Ohio Wesleyan
University.
Dan Vanderpriem served as Redevelopment Manager for the City of
Oakland. Prior to that, he was Director of Planning for the City of
Belmont and the Redevelopment Manager for the City of Berkeley. He is a
graduate of the University of Santa Clara and has a Master‚s Degree in
Urban Planning from San Jose State University.
Joyce Hicks is the Executive Director of the Oakland Citizens‚ Police
Review Board and will continue to serve in that capacity along with her
new duties. She was the Deputy Executive Director of the City of
Oakland Community and Economic Development Agency. She is a graduate
of Pomona College and of the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University
of California, Berkeley.
Leslie Gould, who had been the City of Oakland‚s Planning Director for
the past five years, has resigned, and will continue to work during a
five month transitional period through December 2003.
Rosie Rios, the City‚s Director of Economic Development and
Redevelopment, is leaving after two years. Ms. Rios previously worked
in Fremont as economic development director. She graduated from Harvard
University.
Please join all of us in thanking Leslie and Rosie for their dedication
and service, and congratulating Claudia, Dan and Joyce on their
appointments.
