Happy Independence Day!

This story comes from our own Mr. B. which is why I keep him: "I think I horrified one of my colleagues by telling him that the B family had a July 4th family tradition of making sparkler bombs and blowing up neighbors' mailboxes. I said the only problem right now is that our 3-year-old doesn't quite run fast enough. I think he actually believed me for a moment. Does nobody have a sense of humor anymore?"

Comments...

The 4th was like Beirut on our block, East 28th St.,
near Highland, cherry bombs, firecrackers, probably
guns, for 8 or 9 hours till early am. Nina called the
OPD half a dozen times, no response. Typical.

Same here, near Fruitvale and E. 27th St. It's actually been going on for the last month. I keep wondering, if these illegal fireworks are being smuggled in from China or Mexico or somewhere, how is it that in a post- 9/11 world it is possible to do this. These were not so-called "safe and sane" fireworks bought in manteca or somewhere, these were freaking rockets! One of my neighbors had enough to be setting them off continously for an hour.

You lightwieghts! Try automatic weaponfire and 1/4 sticks of dynamite that crack windows and set off car alarms for a two block radius. North Oakland, AKA the "Norf Pole" home sweet home. Hey Jeannette, can I send you a photo of the stop sign at the end of my block? It's riddled with 9mm rounds that make it look like Swiss cheese.
